Wild, superior, caught in the open ocean or raised in the splendid isles of Northern Europe; many of the self-aggrandizing statements brought upon this product, apart from being difficult to verify, are also devoid of any real import. The salmon, as a product, is especially inviting to these grand statements straight from the wildest fantasies of the marketers. Many, for example, gush over the superiority of wild salmon, or that caught in the open ocean. It is unfortunate, however, that most of the salmon that arrives onto our plate, smoked or fresh, is the product of intensive aquaculture and not of the wild. Furthermore, salmon can be frozen before it is smoked, so even smoked salmon is not guaranteed fresh. Of course while the salmon is being cured, many different kinds of wood are burned to lend the fish a particular flavor. Unfortunately, in some cases not only different types of wood are used but also chemicals. This goes on without any disclosure to the consumer on the product tag as one might usually expect. In knowing these facts one may be beset by doubts as to the nutritional value of salmon. One sign of quality, for example, is the disclosure of the precise location of capture or farming of the animal. Our smoked salmon not only specifies the country of origin, but also the precise location and the methods used in raising it. An extra safeguard is offered by the certificate of origin.

The overwhelming majority of salmon which is imported around the world was raised in either Scotland, Norway, Canada, Alaska or Ireland. All of these products, without much truth, are vaunted by their marketers as being of higher quality because of their place of origin.

Based upon the assumption that the biggest factors in the quality of salmon are the methods used in raising it and curing it, we will try to trace a map of the quality of this species. According to the experts, the Norwegian salmon (the most widely consumed in the world) is not quite excellent and is surely inferior to those caught in Scotland or Ireland and is comparable to Canadian salmon. At the top of the totem pole of quality are placed the Scottish and Irish salmon. The Scottish salmon offers a fine texture and a delicate taste, while their Irish counterparts are better known for their lean meats.

The method of curing was born, naturally, in Northern Europe out of the necessity to preserve meats for long periods. Once the salmon is caught, it is cleaned and eviscerated so that it may be opened and salted. The salting can be done dry (the favored method), or using a specially-made brine (water and salt). This is done to ensure good results during the actual smoking and in either case it is unlikely to be done by hand. Once the salmon has been properly salted it is then smoked. As was said before, the best smoking process burns various woods (elm, ash and oak are most commonly employed) to lend the meat a particular flavor. The process is a fairly simple one and many of the qualities of the salmon are in fact due to it. It is made difficult, however, by its finer points which serve to ensure the products hygiene and flavor.

There are, of course, other factors affecting the quality of the salmon's final product. Among them is the choice of cut, for example, where considerations such as visual aspect come into play. A cut taken close to the tail is not as well-presentable as one taken farther up the flank.I guarantee that the Scottish and Norwegian salmon available in our "store" is among the best the market has to offer.

The art of aromatherapy had been practiced since the earliest times. Strong evidences were found to link aromatherapy to ancient traditions. Though aromatic oils had been used to treat and cure various ailments and conditions for who knows how long, the formal study on their properties only started in the year 1928.

In it's simplest form, aromatherapy is the use of essential plant oils for therapeutic purposes. They are normally employed to relieve a person from stress and a variety of stress-related conditions. And also for promoting an individual's general well being and in invigorating the body and the psyche.

Aromatherapy works by inducing the olfactory nerve cells with aromatic oils, which then carries out the message to the limbic system in the brain. Limbic system is the part of the brain that is responsible for controlling memory and emotions.

Aromatherapy is concerned in both the workings of the physical and emotional aspects of the person under treatment. Physically, aromatherapy helps in relieving specific conditions trough the stimulation of the nervous, immune and circulatory system. In emotions however, they may evoke pleasant memories.

Yet, the medical circles do not agree if aromatherapy in itself is instrumental to the complete healing of a certain condition. But the idea of recovery through aromatherapy is widely accepted.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are derived from the distillation of the elements of a plant like the leaves, roots, flowers, stems and bark. They hold the true essence of the plants from which they originally came in high concentration. Though termed as oil, essential oils normally do not have the real properties of oil. Some essential oils are yellow like that of the lemongrass and orange and many are clear.

These oils are used in a variety of methods: through inhalation, by adding them in the bathwater and by the application of the diluted oil on the body.

The use of oil in aromatherapy is only restricted to those with unadulterated qualities. The purest of the essential oils alone have the therapeutic values.

The following is a list of the most common essential oils used in aromatherapy. Some of which are used as carrier oils (also known as vegetable oils or base oils):

- Almond, Sweet
- Apricot Kernel
- Avocado
- Borage
- Cocoa Butter
- Evening Primrose
- Grapeseed
- Hazelnut
- Jojoba
- Kukui
- Macadamia Nut
- Olive
- Peanut
- Pecan
- Rose Hip
- Sesame
- Shea Butter
- Sunflower

Below are listed essential oils that are not advisable to use in aromatherapy, especially if not supervised by a professional aromatherapy practitioner.

- Ajowan
- Almond, Bitter
- Arnica
- Birch, Sweet
- Boldo Leaf
- Broom, Spanish
- Calamus
- Camphor
- Deertongue
- Garlic
- Horseradish
- Jaborandi
- Melilotus
- Mugwort
- Mustard
- Onion
- Pennyroyal
- Rue
- Sassafras
- Thuja
- Wintergreen
- Wormseed
- Wormwood

Aromatherapists put into practice the workings of aromatherapy in a spectrum of work environments including:

- private practice
- mobile visiting practice
- natural health clinics
- beauty therapy clinics
- health clubs
- hospitals
- hospices and
- nursing homes.

In spite of the lack of formal research on aromatherapy therapists and European physicians are often prescribing certain aromatic oils for a range of complaints including colds and flu, insomnia, sinusitis, migraines, digestive problems and muscle pains. It must be understood though that aromatic oils must never be taken orally and should be first tested to determine the degree of skin's sensitivity to some oils.

With all the above in formation what should we do to improve our health? Sugar is every where but we need to read all labels and try our best to eat as little sugar as possible. Do not turn to chemical sweeteners as they are toxic and in the case of aspartame it will cause you to gain weight.

Sugar in Any Form is Unhealthy

Several years ago, I learned that grain and sugar carbohydrates (actually foods that are white) are unhealthy and we can become obese from these products (we also have to add corn into this because it is a grain not a vegetable).

There several reasons grains are unhealthy. The first and the worst are processed foods. Industrial food manufacturers strip all the nutrition from grains, fortify with chemical vitamins (that our bodies cant use), and then bake or extrude into a food. They also add sugar, corn syrup, and other chemicals.

Extruding maybe the worst because the high pressure and high heat destroys everything including the artificial vitamins and the minerals (This is called fortification). This is the reason children should never have cold cereal there is ZERO nutrition in cereal + lots of sugar is added to entice our children into eating this junk food.

Breads are bad for the same reasons sugars, fortified vitamins, and non absorbable minerals are put into the mix. White bread being bad is not new news, but the population is mislead because they think whole wheat bread is ok. We must read labels. Whole wheat bread is nothing more than a few chemicals to influence the color and taste.

If you choose to eat organic whole wheat non chemical breads you still must consider several things. Whole wheat organic with molasses (this is less sugar not as concentrated plus real trace minerals) is much healthier but these grains still break down to sugars.

We do not have the space to discuss the organophosphates herbicides and pesticides in this article but please remember that unless what you eat is organic it will have these toxic chemicals.

As you read the rest of this article remember that Dr Otto Warburgs work discovered that cancer loves sugar and there is more than a casual relationship between the two entities. Also look at Dr Appletons 146 reasons why sugar is unhealthy.

Also be advised that drug corporations, medicine, and our government do not want you to know what we are discussing. There will never be a cure for cancer and heart disease in fact there isnt a cure for anything just treatment until you die. Our economy is based on no one ever getting well or off medications.

If there was a magical cure for cancer and heart disease announced today, our economy would tank in a matter of days.

Social Security is in trouble but if everyone lived and extra 5 to 10 years or more, SS would be in even worse shape than its present prospects with the baby boomers retirements approaching.

We can be healthier, and less obese. Read my e-book on eating healthy, lose weight, and remember SUGAR IS BAD for you and me.

Every doctor learned back in medical school all about Otto Warburg's discovery; because way back in the thirties Otto discovered the main biochemical cause of cancer, or what differentiates a cancer cell from a normal, healthy cell. This discovery was so big that Otto Warburg was awarded the Nobel Prize.

Cancer has only one prime cause. It is the replacement of normal oxygen respiration of the body's cells by an anaerobic [i.e., oxygen-deficient] cell respiration. -Dr. Otto Warburg

About the author:Dr Bob the Health Builder

Robert D Bard, OD, FAAO

I attended West Virginia University and graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Doctor of Optometry degree.

As a health professional I was always interested in disease prevention but found the medical model , drug companies and doctors , unacceptable. The medical model towards disease is that they want us , the people , to contract disease and they will prevent us from dieing as long as we continue to take their drugs for the rest of our lives. This is their idea of preventive medicine. The population expects prevention to prevent disease before we get sick.

I became overweight and like most people blamed it on me and my eating habits, but I knew that diets and potions on TV DO NOT WORK and therefore put off doing anything until I stumbled across a solution.

In 1999 I began itching and it got worse almost by the day. I started taking antihistamines to reduce the itching and over a 10 month time period visited 4 dermatologists. The first 3 doctors miss diagnosed my problem. The forth discovered the cause but I had to use a pesticide all over my body to correct the condition I know this seems strange but I had an infestation of Norwegian mites under my skin (I didnt even know that mites had a pedigree much less a country of origin).

When I used the pesticide to kill the mites I swelled up like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. With this ordeal I gained even more weight and ended up looking like Porky the Pig. I also lost my sense of taste because of all the antihistamines.

In 2002 I did some consulting work for a supplement company and they gave me a gift book by Sherry Rogers, MD. At the same time I had a patient in my office that sensitive to all chemicals including the chemicals from a carpet that was 6 months old and from my cologne. He had to wear a mask filled with carbon just to get through a basic eye examination. After quizzing him about his condition I discovered that over 6 million people in the US cant function normally because of toxic chemicals that means holding down jobs and leading a normal life.

Because of this patient I began to investigate toxic chemicals and how they affect people, particularly my health, my taste, and weight problems. With this information I have lost 70 pounds, gone from a jean size of 50 to 40. I feel better, look better, and my big belly that used to catch food is almost gone. (I no longer catch food on my stomach)

I have discovered that the public is one big toxic chemical experiment by industrial food manufactures, chemical companies that control farm chemicals with Genetically Engineered crops, drug companies and companies that want to dump their waste products without protecting the public.

There are some really good people that write books and educate people about health issues, economic issues, environmental issues, food problems but all these people specialize in certain areas. My job as I see it is to be a reporter and filter the important information to my subscribers.

I have also been a farmer for years and one of my discoveries is that our diseased health economy starts with toxic chemicals and crop land.

Unhealthy Soil = Unhealthy Plants and Animals = Unhealthy People

I also think it is terrible that when people retire at the age of 65 that 97% are in poverty in this nation. I believe that I can help people make extra money in retirement through my experience on eBay and other sources of information. I have a free newsletter that discusses health issues and money issues to help people.

Beds and mattresses play a very important role in the keeping your back in good shape. After a day full of twists and turns, and bending and straightening, your back requires good rest. Beds and mattresses that do not support the back properly can add to the back strain, besides, affecting the quality of sleep.

You can find a large variety of beds and mattresses on the market. Selecting the right kind is a matter of choice, but for patients of back pain, it is necessary that they follow the guidelines given below.

Selecting the Best Beds and Mattresses

It is important for people suffering from back pain to opt for beds and mattresses that support their back and not put it under additional stress or strain. Not much research has been done on the type of beds and mattresses required for patients with back pain. However, it is seen that adjustable beds suit people with back pain better. The angle of inclination can be adjusted to a position where the patient feels most comfortable. Patients suffering from degenerative spondylolisthesis do benefit from an inclined bed with support under the knees. They can tuck in enough pillows or cushions under the knees and adjust the angle of inclination to provide comfort to the painful back. The mattress should be neither too hard nor soft. A firm mattress will provide the support needed for a bad back.

Patients with an osteoarthritic spine stand to benefit from adjustable beds and mattress that are supportive. It is important for such patients to wake up with a relaxed back, since people suffering from osteoarthritic spine normally get up from bed with a very stiff spine.

Normal beds and mattresses for patients with spinal stenosis tend to deteriorate their condition further. Such people are more comfortable bending forward than keeping their back upright. As such, flat beds and mattresses are not suitable for their condition. An adjustable bed can be inclined at an angle that stimulates a forward bending position. A firm mattress will support the spinal stenosis back well.

More than 17 million American people are affected by anxiety depression symptoms, so that the specialists have been calling this illness as psychiatric flu.

When the young people are concerned, the psychiatric factors are the ones that influence the anxiety depression symptoms. People have to be thought by the specialist how to deal with the stress factors and also they need to know how to improve their own capacity of handling these stressing factors. Almost the majority of the anxiety depression symptoms are very respondent to different treatments, especially to medication. As a modality of reducing stress, anyone can cut some hours from the work schedule program and a refusal of some social obligations. As for the more improved stress confrontation capacity, the patient is supposed to do a lot of relaxing exercises, more adequate sleeping hours and a healthy diet.

Finding an effective antidepressant drug is not an easy task, as every individual has one particular set of characteristics and therefore it is not possible a priori to establish which antidepressant will be that effective one. Beyond to depression medication, other treatments like psychotherapy, integrated therapy and depression medication, electro convulsion therapy and the therapy with light are today available. Each one of these approaches has detailed prescription lists. As an example, the depression medication treatment and that psychotherapy one have a rate success from 60 to 80%. This integrated modality has one of its particular indications in the advanced shapes of depression. Some patients show the persistence of residual symptoms between an episode and the other and in the shapes in which depression medication or psychotherapy alone is not effective.

There is a large number of anti depression drugs that can help remedy the harmful effects of the depressive symptoms but some of them have more side effects than others and this is the reason why they get dangerous. Considering from the price point of view, there are cheaper and more expensive anti depression drugs that can be used for treating this disease, but they may have severe side effects, such as: wither mouth, urine abstain, sedation and a lot of sexual problems. Talking about sexual mal functions, some drugs, which were recently discovered, characterize an important development regarding the sexual abnormality. Each medication used for treating the disease in question has a skimpy different profile of side effects, so it may be possible for one to try several solution treatments in order for the doctor to discover the most appropriate one.

So your thinking about adding fat burners to your daily routine to help you on your way to that slimmer, trimmer body you've always wanted. Hey! Every little bit helps right? So why not fat burners? Well, here is the low-down on fat burners that just might help you to understand what they are and how they work for a weight loss program.

While there are quite a number of products on the market today, many of the ingredients will be similar from one product to another. Caffeine is a drug that is used all over the world mostly for its stimulant effects. Caffeine increases alertness, lowers the perceived exertion of exercise and decreases reaction time.

Caffeine has another effect that few people know about, it also acts as a fat burner! Caffeine works by increasing the rate of fatty acid metabolism and decreasing the rate of carbohydrate metabolism during aerobic exercise. Glycogen is spared after taking in only 150-250mg of caffeine. With an increased reliance on fat and a decreased reliance on glycogen, more calories will be burned from fat if caffeine is taken in prior to exercise.

Keep in mind though that caffeine does have some side effects as well. At higher doses caffeine can cause slowed heart rate, hypertension, nervousness, irritability, insomnia and gastrointestinal distress. It is also a diuretic which causes the kidneys to excrete more fluid than normal which can dehydrate the body. Caffeine will not help you lose weight on its own, but if taken before aerobic exercise it can help increase fat burning and help you exercise longer.

HCA, or hydroxyl citric acid, has the purported effects of inhibiting the conversion of fat by blocking the enzyme ATP citrate lyase and to decrease appetite. Naringin is a substance that is isolated from grapefruit and is an inhibitor of an enzyme that metabolizes caffeine and has been shown to possibly prolong caffeine's fat burning effects.

Synephrine is the active compound in the fruit of a plant called citrus aurantium. Synephrine is chemically similar to the ephedrine found in many cold/allergy medications and a number of weight loss and energy supplements, which contain ma huang. Its purported benefits are to increase the metabolic rate, increase calorie expenditure, promote weight loss and increase energy.

Guggulsterone possibly works in stimulating the thyroid gland. This would speed up the metabolism. It may also lower cholesterol. The trouble is, as with many of these herbs, is that they have not been studied enough to prove that they really work, and that they are safe from any side effects.

Yohimbine raises the metabolism by increasing the release of norepinephrine, one of the adrenal hormones. Studies have shown that this product did have a weight loss effect but as with most other products of this kind, long term use and side effects have yet to be studied.

In essence, fat burners may work to some extent but at what possible long term cost? With the lack of studies done on most of these products as to not only there effectivness, but also there possible side effects, it would be safe to say that it would be best to avoid most of these products. Caffeine, if used in moderate amounts, may well be your best bet for a pre-exercise fat burning aid but use it sparingly and if you feel any of the previously mentioned side effects or any other symptoms from caffeine use, stop and consult your doctor before continuing use.

What is creatine?

Creatine is an amino acid (amino acids are the building blocks of protein) which is made in the body by the liver and kidneys, and is derived from the diet through meat and animal products. Creatine (creatine monohydrate) is a colorless, crystalline substance used in muscle tissue for the production of phosphocreatine, an important factor in the formation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the source of energy for muscle contraction and many other functions in the body.

What does creatine normally do in the body?

In the body, creatine is changed into a molecule called "phosphocreatine" which serves as a storage reservoir for quick energy. Phosphocreatine is especially important in tissues such as the voluntary muscles and the nervous system which periodically require large amounts of energy.

Why do athletes take creatine?

Studies have shown that creatine can increase the performance of athletes in activities that require quick bursts of energy, such as sprinting, and can help athletes to recover faster after expending bursts of energy. Creatine is best for the serious bodybuilder. It helps increase muscle mass, rather than muscle endurance, so its not well suited for athletes participating in endurance activities. However, the increase in muscle mass may be due to water retention and not an increase in muscle tissue.

Why have I been hearing so much about creatine and neuromuscular disorders?

Two scientific studies have indicated that creatine may be beneficial for neuromuscular disorders. First, a study by MDA-funded researcher M. Flint Beal of Cornell University Medical Center demonstrated that creatine was twice as effective as the prescription drug riluzole in extending the lives of mice with the degenerative neural disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease). Second, a study by Canadian researchers Mark Tarnopolsky and Joan Martin of McMaster University Medical Center in Ontario found that creatine can cause modest increases in strength in people with a variety of neuromuscular disorders. Beal's work was published in the March 1999 issue of Nature Neuroscience and the second paper was published in the March 1999 issue of Neurology.

I want to start taking creatine -- is it safe?

For the most part, athletes haven't experienced adverse side-effects from taking creatine, although recently there have been a few reports of kidney damage linked to creatine usage. No consistent toxicity has been reported in studies of creatine supplementation. Dehydration has also been reported to be a problem while taking creatine.

Athletes generally take a "loading dose" of 20 grams of creatine a day for five or six days, then continue with a "maintenance dose" of 2 to 5 grams of creatine a day thereafter.

What are the side effects?

Little is known about long-term side effects of creatine, but no consistent toxicity has been reported in studies of creatine supplementation. In a study of side effects of creatine, diarrhea was the most commonly reported adverse effect of creatine supplementation, followed by muscle cramping.18 Some reports showed that kidney, liver, and blood functions were not affected by short-term higher amounts or long-term lower amounts of creatine supplementation in healthy young adults. In a small study of people taking 530 grams per day, no change in kidney function appeared after up to five years of supplementation. Muscle cramping after creatine supplementation has been anecdotally reported in some studies.

- increases athletic performance
- increases muscle mass
- beneficial for muscular disorders

Backache is largely caused by sitting, standing or stooping for a long time and is prevalent amongst all age groups. Human physiology has undergone a sea change in the recent years with a large proportion of people spending a majority of their work time sitting in front of computers or desks or cars and other vehicles. The sitting posture puts pressure on our back and the constituent muscles thus resulting in backache.

Our spinal column is constituted in such a way that it provides the necessary stability to stand straight and the flexibility to move around. The spine includes a number of muscles that may get pressurized due to bad postures. Everyone of us is bound to face backache at one or the other point in our lifetime, but women in general are more prone to this problem.

A Woman's body undergoes a lot of changes during pregnancy. During the last two trimesters of pregnancy, the center of gravity of her back changes due to the position of the fetus thus altering the curve of her spine. Bending and lifting are also a regular part of a womans daily routine and are the most common reasons of back pain. Menstrual pain can often result in backache amongst women.

Sudden jerks or movements can also result in back pain. Several conditions such as Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, Viral infection, Bladder or kidney infection, Gynecological problems in women, tumors and trauma can also cause backache.

Excess weight or the wearing of the wrong type of shoes can also result in back pain. Regular exercises that strengthen our abdominal muscles are the best solution to treat backache. Maintaining the right posture and keeping our body weight in check can go a long way in the prevention and cure of backache.

The low back pain is the second most common ailment affecting 80% of the general United States population at some point in life. The pain may either be acute or chronic and is usually caused by a variety of diseases and disorders of the lumbar spine. Low Back pain is usually accompanied by sciatica. Sciatica is a pain that involves the sciatic nerve and affects the lower back, the back of the thighs and buttocks.

Causes and Symptoms of Low back pain

The patient of low back pain may experience two types of pain, primarily - acute and chronic. The pain is symptomatic and can be caused by the following reasons:

Acute Pain:

A sprain or a muscle tear, which can be aggravated by heavy lifting or extended use of back muscles within 24 hours of the injury, leading to muscle spasms or soreness. Usually improves when you provide rest to the affected area.

Chronic Pain:

This pain may have several causes like -

1.Mechanical Obesity, pregnancy, bad postures while bending, or stooping causes strain on the lower back muscles.

2.Malignancy Low back pain that is not relieved even after a night's rest, maybe caused by a tumor in the cauda equine (the roots of the spinal nerves controlling sensation in and movement of the legs), or cancer of the prostate, breasts or lungs, maybe caused because of a history of smoking, sudden weight loss or old age.

3.Herniated Spinal Disk When the spinal disk begins to bulge outward between the vertebrae. This is a common cause of chronic back pain in adults.

4.Ankylosing Spondylitis Pain caused while lying down or sitting; improves when the patient starts moving, is commonly seen in males between the age group of 16-35 years.

5.Psychogenic Back pain which may be induced due to an exaggerated minor injury or that may be usually prolonged leading to somatoform disorder or other psychiatric disturbances.

6.Lower Back Pain with Leg Involvement When the back pain radiates down the leg, the sciatic nerve is usually irritated by herniated disks, tumors of the cauda equina, abscesses in the space between the spinal cord and its covering, spinal stenosis, and compression fractures. Some patients may also experience weakness or lack of feeling, along with pain in the leg.

One of the main causes of hyperthyroidism is Graves' Disease. Graves' Disease, an autoimmune disease that sees an individual's thyroid gland as a foreign object invading the body and produces antibodies to attack the gland. This causes the thyroid gland to produce a greater than normal amount of thyroxine. As a person's thyroxine level increases, the body's metabolic rate increases as well. A higher metabolism rate can lead to a number of health problems, including irregular heartbeat and anxiety disorders.

Graves' Disease occurs mostly in middle-aged women, but it has also been known to occur in children and the elderly. There is said to be a genetic predisposition of the disease, but the cause remains unknown.

Symptoms of Graves' Disease include a sensitivity to heat, weight loss, brittle hair, restlessness, muscle weakness, increased appetite, tremors, blurred or double vision, nervousness, redness and swelling of the eyes, fatigue, changes in heart beat and sex drive. While Graves' Disease is an incurable ailment, it is not life threatening and can very well be treated with anti-thyroid drugs, radioactive iodine, or surgery to remove most of the thyroid gland.

While most individuals seem to do well on anti-thyroid medication, surgery may just be the best option in certain situations, such as individuals that have problems where the thyroid gland is interfering with the ability to swallow. Radioactive iodine destroys part or all of the thyroid gland and renders it incapable of overproducing thyroxine. The treatment consists of swallowing a pill containing radioactive iodine. Side effects are minimal and the treatment is relatively painless.

More serious complications of Graves' Disease are weakened heart muscle that can lead to heart failure, osteoporosis, or possible severe emotional disorders. However, these complications are only likely to appear if Graves' Disease is prolonged, untreated, or improperly treated. By visiting your doctor for a checkup and discussing your symptoms and treatment options for Graves' Disease long before your symptoms begin to turn serious, you can safely treat Graves' Disease and live happier and healthier knowing that although there is no cure for Graves' Disease, it can be successfully treated.

Did you know that your diet could cause acne, or even worsen it?

Well, check out this latest research done at the American Academy of Dermatology in Harvard.

The facts are that despite what was commonly thought of chocolate and greasy food would cause acne, this is long proven wrong. Now the basic stable data here is that what cause acne to manifest itself are during hormonal fluctuations and genetics. Therefore the times prone to experience this uncomfortable condition is during puberty, pregnancy and menopause.

But the latest research point to one or two exceptions involving dairy products. The researches analyzed about 50,000 peoples habits and diets specially what they ate during high school. Those who habitually drank two-three cups of milk a day where 22% prone to have severe acne compared to those who only drank one cup a week or less.

Skim milk had the greatest effect. Cream cheese and cottage cheese were also related to outbreaks, while chocolate and grease were not. Basically researchers were certain to prove the effect of hormones on milk, other studies had come out with similar findings and share this discovery.

You also have to know that food that contain iodides, like shellfish and soy sauce, might also exacerbate acne. Iodides are thought to play a role in the inflammation, this confirmed by Dr Diane S. Berson, an assistant professor of dermatology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

So, the bottom line is that certain foods particularly dairy products, has proven to generate acne and some times, severe condition of acne.

But finally, there's something you can do to end the frustration and suffering brought on by acne. With just a few simple daily steps, you can heal the pimples you have today and help stop new ones from forming tomorrow. Whether you're a man or a woman, 15 or can have the clear, blemish-free skin you've always wanted.

While there are many factors that can contribute to back pain, one of the most common problems is poor posture. Some people get into the habit of sitting or standing improperly, and over time this contributes to pain in their backs. Understanding the causes of back pain will allow you to avoid it, and will lead to a healthier and more active lifestyle.

When someone first begins feeling pain in their back, they can easily correct it by improving their posture. However, if you don't correct your posture your joints will eventually begin to wear out over time. Studies have shown that in the long term, the ageing of joints in your back can be just as extreme as the effects of suffering a back injury.

People who continue to have poor posture will eventually feel the effects of ageing. Their poor joints will force them to stoop over, and their mobility will be greatly decreased. With the rising costs of healthcare, it will be expensive to correct such problems, if it is even possible to correct them at all. Is it not better to correct your posture while you still have the chance?

The vast majority of the deformities seen in the elderly are a result of poor posture. Often, other parts of the body are affected such as the lungs, which will not be able to get a proper amount of oxygen due to the upper body being bent over. This may also eventually cause problems with your stomach and other organs.

While many people consider weak back joints to be just a normal part of ageing, by taking a few simple steps everyday people can avoid back problems in the long term. By standing up at least once a day and bending backward, people can avoid back pain.

Doing this simple routine on a daily basis can keep your from being impaired when you get older. Walking or running can help people to relieve pain in their lower backs. Because most people drive or work in an office, they have less time for running or walking. Exercising is an important part of keeping both your back and the rest of your body healthy.

Back pain is something that millions of people suffer from, and there is not reason for them to continue. By exercising and sitting correctly, many of these problems can be avoided. Getting treatment for the problem once it has become out of control will be costly. It is much less expensive to just practice good posture and exercise on a regular basis.

Sitting improperly is one of the leading causes for back pain. Once you begin having problems in your lower back, sitting improperly will exacerbate the problem. It is also important to stand up and lay down properly also. You may find that you suffer pain in your lower back only at certain times, such as when you sleep or stand for extended periods of time. If this is the case, it can be easily corrected by practicing good posture.

We drink wine, placing it in a glass and swallowing without the effort of chewing (even though some people describe wine as chewy). It goes down smooth, born to be only wild enough to glide down an esophagus. Quenching our thirst and our nerves, a glass of good wine is simply a good drink.

However, wine isn't limited to just a glass, a bottle, or even a bucket. Branching out into different realms, as if trying to find itself in the culinary world, wine has become an important ingredient in many food dishes.

Cooking with wine isn't a new concept; a bottle has always been in the kitchen, wearing a chef's hat and sauting the onions. But, with more and more light shining onto the health benefits of wine, people are becoming increasingly interested in wine sauces, adding it to dishes for wallop and wellness.

Choosing Between Red Wine and White Wine

Red wine will go with several dishes, as if some sort of food floozy getting on top of everything it knows. While people can alter recipes to make red wine BBQ sauce, or red wine steak sauce, the basic job of red wine is to marinate, bringing out the food's innate flavors. Reds are skilled at bringing out the colors and essence of the food, and they add a dryness, making dishes taste less sugary. Similar to food/wine pairings, red wine should be added to dishes containing red meat, or dishes with a lot of vegetables, such as stews.

While red wine enhances flavor, white wines alter it. This doesnt mean that white wine will decrease the horrible taste of your mother-in-law's fettuccini, but it adds an acidic feature, making the dish more tart. It won't drastically change the dish, but it will enhance its natural sharpness. White wines are best used for cream sauces, or with chicken and fish.

How Much to Spend

Wine that you cook with should be wine that you would drink.willingly. This doesn't mean that you should pour your bottle of 1847 Chteau d'Yquem into a noodle sauce, but adding in weak wine will hurt, even ruin, your dish. If you purchase a wine of poor quality, your food will adopt that poor quality, which is probably not the goal you're aiming for. A good rule of thumb is to never add cheap wine, but don't go overboard and add an expensive wine that should be saved for a special occasion.

Cooking Wine

Cooking wine, by definition, is a very inexpensive wine that has been treated with salt as a preservative. Its sole purpose of existence is to be added to food. While some people advocate the use of cooking wine, true wine connoisseurs don't, throwing the recipe book at it instead. This, in a nutshell, is because cooking wine tastes exactly like it's supposed to taste: like wine you'd never want to drink.

Drunken Dishes

Some people may imagine that an entree full of alcohol will cause mayhem among the dinette set, causing the dish, in a moment of lapsed judgment, to actually run away with the spoon. But, in truth, using alcohol for cooking won't have as much of an affect as using it for drinking. This isn't to say that all the alcohol in food disappears (some dishes that aren't cooked very long can still have high contents), but the longer something simmers, the more the alcohol evaporates, leaving the dish on the verge of sobriety.

Cooking with wine is meant to be fun and something people can do with a lot of variety. Though the Internet is filled with recipes and directions on how to make specific dishes, a lot of cooking with wine just comes with learning and understanding your specific tastes. In the end, wine can add pizzazz to your meal with flavor and zest, but usually not so much alcohol that you find yourself sauced.

Heartburn is described as a burning sensation that can be felt in the chest specifically at the lower sternum. Such pain is caused by a reflux of digestive acid that shoots up and enter the lower esophagus thus resulting to a burning sensation and acute pain.

This condition is also called as acid reflux, cardialgia, pyrosis and GERD.

Statistically, 60 million of Americans suffer from this heartburn condition and needless to say its never pleasant when it occurs. That's why this article is written. To help you alleviate the pain and ultimately achieve heartburn cure. But because of the limitations of the length of this article. I'll be just covering some general heartburn cure, but if you want a detailed, step by step and immediate need for heartburn cure. I'll be happy to help you, just follow the link at the bottom of the article. It points to my blog and I'll recommend you to an ebook that has proven track record helping people achieve heartburn cure. Try to avoid scams, and this one is not. Because over a thousand of ex-heartburn sufferers can't be wrong.

Enough of that and let's get to the meat.

It's already know that some substances can cause heartburn. So, by simply avoiding this "triggers" you can achieve heartburn cure before it even started. Pretty neat huh! But what substance that usually cause heartburn? Well heres the top 10. Drum roll please....

1. Caffeine - The top spot goes to caffeine and its derivatives, like colas, chocolates and some teas. This substances can cause the esophagus sphincter muscle to relax, thus resulting to backward flow of digestive acids.

2. Fatty Foods and Oily Foods - These substances slows down digestion because they need special enzymes that can digest them. The problem with longer digestion, foods begin to pile up in the stomach increasing pressure to the sphincter of the esophagus and eventually give way. There goes the digestive acids again, burning the esophagus.

3. Tomatoes - Tomatoes and tomato based products also causes heartburn. This kind of foods also relaxes the sphincter of the esophagus muscles.

4. Smoking - The chemicals from puffing a stick of cigarette causes to weaken the sphincter muscle of the lower esophagus.

5. Alcohol - Has relaxing effects on the sphincter muscle of the esophagus.

Now that you know what kind of foods to avoid. Let's add some tips on how to actually achieve heartburn cure.

You should try to eat high fiber diets. Also you can try some herbal supplements like ginger tea or ginger ale, which by the way is gaining popularity recently. Drinking lots of water also provides heartburn cure. Swallowing saliva. Saliva reduces acidity by 50%. Also it is best done with chewing gums, coz it will stimulate to produce more saliva.

But still, these are recommendations. It's best to ask youre physician before trying anything.

Until recently, western medical research has been inconclusive in determining whether or not there is real benefit for an asthmatic to conduct breathing exercises as part of an overall asthma management program. These exercises have certainly been popular in many alternative type asthma management programs but have not yet been embraced by allopathic, or traditional western physicians.

But they are beneficial and will help an asthma sufferer reduce symptoms and increase strength.

The two most often practiced techniques are Buteyko (named after the Russian doctor who developed them) and a yoga training technique known as pranayama. In very simple terms, Buteyko exercises involve breathing through the nose (not mouth), exhaling for as long as possible and then holding the breath as long as possible at the end of the exhale. During the inhale, a series of short, but shallow breaths are practiced. Pranayama is about correct posture, relaxation and controlled, slow inhalation and exhalation, with a focus on using the diaphragm muscles to assist with breathing.

While breathing techniques have long been supported by naturopathic physicians, it is only in the last several years that the allopathic medical community (traditional doctors) has moved to try and quantify any potential benefit from these exercises. One study, published in the March 2004 edition of "Current Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine" concluded there might be some benefit, although more study was required.

In several patient groups (some using buteyko training and others using pranayana), there did appear to be reduced asthma symptoms although lung function did not appreciably change (as measured by PEFR). Nevertheless, patients felt better and did experience a reduction in need for relief medications.

How do breathing exercises help asthmatics

Since asthma is related to inflammation of the lungs and constriction of the smooth involuntary bronchiole muscles, how can doing breathing exercises help alleviate symptoms?

For starters, it is estimated that some 30% of asthmatics suffer some degree of breathing dysfunction. Bad habits are easily learned when suffering from asthma symptoms and it is not uncommon for those habits to continue in between attacks , breathing through the mouth and short, shallow breaths for example.

This type of breathing deprives the lungs of their full potential to effectively exchange oxygen with carbon dioxide. Breathing exercises enforce good habits where the full range of lung function is used. Consequently, the body gets the oxygen it needs and the chronic asthmatic feels better, with more energy.

And not only will it make the breathing process more efficient, there is evidence that breathing muscles (diaphragm and lung muscles) are strengthened. So even if breath training doesnt directly improve lung function, eliminating bad habits will improve overall health and quality of life. And this new energy level is important in getting stronger and finding the motivation to attack asthma with a total management plan that results in symptoms being completely controlled with very little, if any need for medications.

In addition to increased energy levels and stronger lung muscles, there is another benefit to breathing exercises even if it doesnt directly result in increased lung function. And that is when actually enduring an asthma attack.

Anyone who has asthma knows what it is like to struggle for breath. You cant get enough air into your lungs and just as agonizing, you cant seem to get any air out. Asthmatics who practice correct breathing exercises are much more likely to be able to endure, in a controlled manner, an asthma attack than those that dont.

Of course that is not to say that controlled breathing replaces relief medication - it most certainly doesn't. But it does contribute, in a real way, to stabilizing the attack because the asthmatic can fight the temptation to start breathing in an uncontrolled manner. Indeed, biofeedback, a technique in which patients are trained to basically will themselves to breath more efficiently, seems to be getting more and more traction.

Controlling asthma cannot be achieved by only using one tool. Multiple tools should be used . In addition to the control and relief medications prescribed by your physician. Diet, exercise, trigger controls are all essential components; and so is a good and consistent program of breathing exercises. Using all of these tools will allow an asthmatic to completely control her disease and enjoy a symptom free lifestyle.

"Smoking has a detrimental effect on nutrition. Smokers break down Vitamin C about twice as fast as nonsmokers. This can deprive the body of adequate amounts of . . . versatile antioxidants . . . Other antioxidants are depleted as well. Cigarette smoke contains a compound . . . that oxidizes (destroys) the antioxidant vitamins . . . damage to DNA. The accelerated antioxidant damage, in combination with the DNA damage, SPEEDS THE AGING PROCESS". This is according to James F.Balch, M.D.

We read and hear about how bad smoking is for us on a daily basis--yet people continue to smoke--why? Because they are addicted and it is difficult to quit. Some say that it is harder to quit smoking than to quit heroin addiction. Why does this happen? It is reported that one reason is that the tolerance to nicotine develops very rapidly. This means that to experience the sense of pleasure and relaxation (this is real and is attributed to some of the same hormonal and chemical changes that are the most damaging to the body) that made the smoker enjoy smoking, he/she must smoke more and more to get the same satisfaction. Thus, a 2 a day cigarette habit increases to 1 then 2 or more packs a day.

What does this mean to those who smoke, live with smokers or know smokers? It doesn't mean to criticize them--it does mean that we need to provide education and offer PROTECTION FOR THE SMOKER AND THOSE WHO ARE EXPOSED TO THEIR SMOKE.

There is still a lot of debate about the damages of second hand smoke; however there is good research to indicate that the children who are exposed to tobacco smoke on a regular basis are at increased risk for respiratory diseases, cancer and leukemia.

There are thousands of potentially dangerous compounds in tobacco. Let's just talk about the one we know the most about: NICOTINE: It raises blood pressure, raises the metabolic rate and drives nutrients out of the body, causes the tissues of your skin to be dull and gray looking (the tissues are starving for oxygen), deprives the cells and blood of oxygen, causes muscles to tense, affects your body temperature, causes hormonal changes, the list could go on.

Cigarettes are a factor in 17% of deaths in the US annually

Heart Disease is more prevalent in smokers than nonsmokers

1/3 of cancer deaths are related to smoking

85% of those with chronic obstruction pulmonary disease are smokers

85% of lung cancer cases are related to smoking

AND IF THAT ISN'T ENOUGH smoking is also linked to angina, blocked arteries, cataracts, bronchitis, asthma, colon cancer, impotence, urinary problems, and many other respiratory conditions because it paralyzes the cilia which are supposed to clear the mucous from your body. AND WOMEN it can lead to earlier menopause.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I QUIT? The healing process begins immediately--hopefully you have escaped some of the more damaging conditions--Within 24 hours blood pressure and pulse rate begin to normalize; blood oxygen begins to improve, your sense of taste and smell begin to normalize, it is easier to breathe and within one week your risk for a heart attack decreases.

HOW DO I PROTECT MYSELF AND OTHERS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE? You need to supply the body with optimum nutrition on a daily basis to try and keep up with the nutrition that is being driven from your body. The most comprehensive regimen:Limu Plus (1 oz 2x) VitaOne or VitChe (both as directed) as a foundation, Coral Calcium (as dir), Super ViGest (it is essential that you breakdown the nutrients that you so desperately need), Revitalgen (2 between breakfast and lunch and 2 between lunch and dinner for 60 days; then 2 a day as dir) and Vita Enhanced Water (smoking dehydrates your system and creates acid conditions, so, you need lots of water and this water hydrates better and counteracts the acids). These six are the minimum protection for those exposed to the smoke. The smoker, the smoker who has quit (follow the extra guidelines for at least 90 days) and the smoker who is trying to quit needs extra help: Probiotic (as directed) Garlic (1 3x a day). Omega III (1 3x), C-Crystals (1/2 tsp 3x), CoQ10 (1 mg per 1 lb of body weight), CellRich (2 3x a day for 10 days; then 1 or 2 a day), and to help the liver with its cleansing job, VitaMarin (1 2x a day).

SPECIAL TIP: IF YOU ARE TRYING TO QUIT, REMEMBER, THE STRONG URGE FOR THE CIGARETTE LASTS 3-5 MINUTES so try to occupy yourself for that time: run, do push ups, talk to someone, something.

ALSO, they say that the urge for "mouth feel" is strong--DO NOT suck on candy. The sugars will increase your craving. INSTEAD eat 1/2 of an Appetizer Diet Cookie or suck on a Chewable Vitamin C . . . it tastes like a tart candy; but either one of them will satisfy your nutritional craving instead of creating one.

I apologize that this is so long; but if it helps save one life--ISN'T IT WORTH IT?

Love You All

Health Guru : Tuberculosis, a Cause for Concern?
Webmaster | 4. April 2007 @ 16:17

Despite advances in treatments available, tuberculosis (TB) still remains a global pandemic. One third the human population is currently infected with tuberculosis. What is tuberculosis?

The disease tuberculosis is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis can affect any part of the body but usually infects the lungs. Tuberculosis is spread through airborne droplets occurring when an infected individual sneezes, talks, or coughs. However, prolonged exposure to the infected individual must occur before you may become infected. The body may harbor the bacteria while the immune system prevents sickness. For this reason, there are two forms of TB: latent tuberculosis and active tuberculosis.

With latent tuberculosis, the immune system is able to prevent the bacteria from growing. The tuberculosis bacteria remain alive within the body but are inactive at this time. However, the bacteria can become active later in life. Those with latent tuberculosis have no symptoms, do not feel sick, are not contagious, and may develop TB later in life if they do not receive treatment.

Active tuberculosis simply means that the tuberculosis bacteria are growing within the body causing an active infection. Signs and symptoms of active tuberculosis include fatigue, slight fever, chills, night sweats, loss of appetite, unintended weight loss, a cough that lasts three or more weeks producing discolored or bloody sputum, and pain with coughing or breathing. Active tuberculosis is highly contagious.

What is causing the tuberculosis pandemic? Improved public health programs have helped to create a steady decline of tuberculosis cases in the United States. However, the problem is far from solved. Factors that contribute to the spread of tuberculosis in the U.S. and elsewhere include the increase in number of foreign born nationals, crowded living conditions, increase in drug resistant strains of tuberculosis, lack of access to medical care, and the increase in poverty.

Poorly ventilated and crowded conditions help to spread TB. This is one reason tuberculosis cases have reached epidemic proportions. Although the incidence of TB cases in the U.S. is declining, the incidence in other parts of the world is increasing. Half of the reported cases in the U.S. (in 2000) occurred in individuals that were born outside of the U.S. Individuals that live in poverty, move or migrate often usually do not finish the tuberculosis treatment. This is leading to drug resistant forms of tuberculosis.

Drug resistant strains of tuberculosis are a serious problem. Tuberculosis bacteria have developed strains of the bacteria that are resistant to each of the major tuberculosis medications. There are also strains of tuberculosis that are resistant to at least two tuberculosis medications. This multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) is posing an even deadlier threat to those affected. Individuals affected with MDR-TB are much more difficult to treat requiring a long term therapy of up to two years. The medications required to treat these strains can cause serious side effects. This is one great reason to complete the entire course of medication as prescribed by your doctor.

Certain factors increase your risk of contracting tuberculosis. An individual in an immunocompromised state is at risk of developing TB. A number of factors can cause the immune system to be in a weakened state. Some diseases can suppress the immunity such as diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and silicosis. Certain medications can affect the bodys immune system which includes chemotherapy drugs and corticosteroids. An increased risk of reactivated tuberculosis has been associated with the use of arthritis medications Enbrel and Remicade.

Individuals within close proximity of those infected with tuberculosis are at an increased risk of developing disease. Individuals in areas of high rates of tuberculosis (Asia, Africa, Latin America, former Soviet Union) have an increased risk of developing tuberculosis. Certain races (Hispanics, American Indians, Asian Americans, African Americans) in the U.S. are at risk of developing tuberculosis. What other factors may increase your risk of developing tuberculosis?

The older adult is at an increased risk of developing tuberculosis due to a weakened immune system. Individuals who are malnourished, lack adequate medical care, or who suffer from long term drug or alcohol abuse are at increased risk of developing tuberculosis. Health care workers are at increased risk of developing tuberculosis also.

If you develop any of the signs or symptoms listed above, you should seek medical advice. Individuals with HIV should be tested for tuberculosis, since the leading cause of death in the AIDS patient is tuberculosis. HIV and tuberculosis have a deadly symbiosis, in which TB increases the rate at which the AIDS virus replicates and HIV reactivates inactive TB. Health care workers are usually tested at least yearly for tuberculosis by Mantoux test. Individuals with latent tuberculosis reveal a positive Mantoux even though no symptoms of the disease are evident. Tuberculosis is also tested by chest x-ray and culture tests (urine, sputum).

Tuberculosis is a preventable disease. There are a few measures one can take to protect their health. First, you should be tested regularly. If you have an immune suppressing disease, live or work in a prison or nursing home, were born in a TB prevalent country, or have other risk factors, then a Mantoux test should be done every six months.

If you test positive without symptoms, speak with your doctor about treatments to reduce the risk of developing active tuberculosis. The most important step you can do for the public and yourself is to finish the entire course of medication. Treatment that is stopped to early allows the bacteria a chance to mutate to a drug resistant form.

Health Guru : Massage - How To Live Longer And Enjoy Life's Pleasures With The Benefits Of Massage Therapy
Webmaster | 3. April 2007 @ 16:17

In Sydney Australia, new massage techniques combined with technology are benefiting Peter Cutland's Wellness Support clients. A longer, more pleasurable life are the main benefits!

Massage is simple, non-intrusive therapy which restores, rehabilitates and revitalises your body and mind. Anyone of any age for almost any condition can use and benefit from massage.

Massage therapy eases the pain and discomfort of injuries, strains, accidents and illness to allow the body's natural healing processes to work most effectively.

It enhances your vitality and sense of well-being.

There are different forms of massage therapy, each requiring a very sound knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology.

Therapeutic Massage is defined as the mobilisation of soft tissue to restore balance to the body. It can be stimulating or soothing, depending on the type of techniques applied. Done by a qualified practitioner, it is a relaxing, safe and effective way to restore balance and harmony to the mind and body.

Remedial Massage is the use of massage and diagnostic techniques to treat a wide variety of conditions. Remedial massage is beneficial to the nervous, circulatory and muscular systems of the body, giving relief to chronic pain, musculo-skeletal problems, general relaxation and treatment of injuries.

Aromatherapy Massage is the treatment by the application of Essential Oils to enhance the positive effects achieved by its own specialised form of massage. This method of amalgamation of movements developed in China, India, Persia and France. The Oils are the concentrated 'essences' of plants and act to mediate all the activities of plant life and also work spectacularly for us.

Chinese " Acu-pressure Massage" is the manual therapy aspect of Chinese medicine. It works with the power and sensitivity of human touch to stimulate specific potent and healing areas of the body via energy meridian. - Acu-point-system. It can be effectively applied to revitalise the body's own recuperative power to most functional or structural disorders.

How does massage work?

Massage therapy assists in restoring the normal functioning of your muscle, nerve, circulatory, skin, connective tissue, digestive, and lymphatic systems, enabling your body and mind to heal itself.

Massage by a skilled therapist works because it:

1. Releases muscular spasm and tension
2. Stimulates local blood supply
3. Increases nutrient supply to your body tissues
4. Reduces fluid retention and swelling
5. Helps elimination of bodily toxic waste
6. Enhances the efficient functioning of your skin
7. Re-organises the connective tissue system.
8. Increases flexibility
9. Increases mobility
10.Improves sense of well-being

How will you benefit from massage?

The benefits of massage are universal. You may experience:

- Reduced stress and tension
- Improved circulation
- Less aches and pains
- Greater muscle relaxation
- Reduced risk of injury
- Improved muscular performance
- Increased freedom of movement and co-ordination
- A healthier body and mind

How Can I Make The Best Use of Massage In Sydney Australia?

You may use massage to help in the healing and managing of:

- Stress and stress related illness
- Back pain
- Headaches
- Getting fit and healthy
- Sports injuries
- Sinus
- Insomnia
- Emotional trauma
- Over-use injuries

and much, much more.

Gentle massage affects the nervous system through nerve endings in the skin, stimulating the release of endorphins, the body's natural 'feel good' chemicals, to help induce relaxation and a sense of well-being, to relieve pain and reduce levels of stress chemicals such as cortisol and noradrenaline. It helps reverse the damaging effects of stress by slowing heart rate, respiration and metabolism and lowering raised blood pressure.

Stronger massage stimulates blood circulation to improve the supply of oxygen and nutrients to body tissues and helps the lymphatic system to flush away waste products. It eases tense and knotted muscles and stiff joints, improving mobility and flexibility.

Regular massage reduces the residual tension you carry about with you.

This frees you from increasing stiffness and limitation so that you are better able to cope with physical and emotional demands. You can work with your massage therapist to either overcome or prevent injury and illness. Sydney clients may contact Peter on 02 9686 4884 or email him at

Health Guru : Backpain: A Common Phenomenon
Webmaster | 2. April 2007 @ 16:17

Backpain is a common phenomenon in the United States with nearly 80% of the population suffering from it. The overuse of the muscles in the back or a strain/injury to the muscles and ligaments supporting the spine are the most common causes of back pain.

Backpain can be acute, recurrent or chronic. Most of the people suffering from back pain fall in the first category wherein the pain vanishes in about six weeks and home remedies prove to be very effective. In the case of the recurrent category, the pain reappears after some time while chronic pain lasts for a longer period of time.

A strain in the back muscles due to bending, twisting or lifting some weight generally leads to backpain. An infection, arthritis or ovarian cysts can also be a cause of back pain. In today's times people often sit in one posture for a long time and thus experience pain in their backs.

Backpain may emerge suddenly but it develops over a longer period of time and is generally a result of a strain in the back muscles. The accumulation of acidic byproducts such as lactic acid and pyruvic acid restricts the normal functioning of muscle tissues and leads to irritation or pain in the muscles. This results in a problem known as delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

The effective treatment of one's backpain can only be done after a proper diagnosis of the factors causing the pain is done. A severe back pain may often be the result of muscle spasms emanating from a simple back strain. On the other hand a person with a herniated disc may not experience any pain in his back for a long period of time. So it is very important to know about the real cause of the back pain. An injury to the muscle ligament or tendon is less worrisome and easily curable than a bone fracture or tumor in the spine.

The most common symptoms of backpain due to a herniated disc are the numbness in the legs and the back. Degenerative disc disorder and osteoarthritis can result in a situation where the pain aggravates with the movement of the back. A minor pain in the back can also be due to the initiation of arthritis. An orthopedic surgeon or a spine specialist should be consulted in case of chronic pain.

Health Guru : Useful Guide On Air Filter Manufacturers
Webmaster | 1. April 2007 @ 16:17

There are many air filter manufacturers on the market. And this is not surprising since the demand for air filters has been on the upward trend for many years now. The demand is premised on the fact that clean and fresh air is needed all around us. We need it for our continual existence.

As I often advise people like you, it's advisable you go for reputable brand names when thinking of acquiring air filters. Youre guaranteed the best product and after sales services. Shun new brands. They often fail in the promise made at their introduction into the market.

Lets take a look at some reputable air filters manufacturers. Make up your mind after going through this information and similar ones.

Honeywell: Honeywell is one of the manufacturers that have been in the business for many years. Infact, it dates back to 1885. They produce four major types of air filter: Replacement Media filter, HEPA air cleaners, Media Air Cleaners, and Electronic air cleaners. These air filters have advanced technology and are certified by the American Lung Association. Their whole-house HEPA air cleaner provides a powerful, three-stage filtration process that ensures the cleanest air. The stages include activated carbon, pre-filter and HEPA filter. Honeywell filters contain an AIRWATCH indicator which reminds you when to change the filter and is backed with a one-year warranty. Their electronic air filter destroys almost 98% of pollutants. This also comes with a 5 year-warranty.

K&N: K&N has been in the business for over 30 years. Its air filters are designed to achieve high, virtually unrestricted air flow and long engine life. The company also offers Replacement air filters that fit exactly into the standard OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) motorcycle airbox, Universal air filters for racing vehicles and many more. K&N has almost 1000 shapes/styles of universal air filters and back each of them with a one year-warranty. Their Replacement air filters come with a million mile limited warranty. In addition, these filters increase horsepower and acceleration of the vehicle along with filtration.

AIR BEAR: This Company manufactures both whole house air cleaners and portable air cleaners which facilitate cost efficient air filtration. It has furnace filters, replacement filters and media cleaners. Their products come in three sizes with three different dimensions such as 3x6x15, 5x20x25 and 20x20x5. Depending on the size and dimension of the filter, you should be ready to part with as much as $100 or more.

HUNTER AIR FILTERS: This Company makes two distinct lines of air filters. These are the QuietFlow line and her popular HEPAtech line of air purifiers. The latter uses a combination of cleaning technologies, with a charcoal filter to remove odors in the home. However, the charcoal filter must be replaced regularly. The former on the other hand are based on HEPA filters which also need regular replacement at least once a year for effective filtration. The cost of these two types of filters could be from $15 to $90.

ORECK: This Company is based in the US. It offers a powerful Oreck XL Professional air purifier which is known to completely regenerate the air in a 30X30 room every hour by capturing and destroying airborne irritants. The filter works by trapping 95% of airborne particles, some as minute as one thousand times smaller than a single hair. Cleaning of the filter is not burdensome as the light in the filter indicates when cleaning is necessary. The Oreck XL Professional Air purifier has a five-stage purification process which make sit more powerful than HEPA filter in air filtration. The five-stage includes a pre-filter, positive charging wires, a collector, charcoal odor absorbers and an air-revitalizer, which bids farewell top all dust mites, and airborne allergens.

Though these are not the only air filters manufacturers in the market, they are the most popular among shoppers. Theyve been tested and proven to effectively rid the air around you of all type of airborne contaminants.
